The Great American Banana Split Celebration

Description: The Great American Banana Split Celebration, an official homecoming for banana lovers worldwide and a celebration of national banana split day, will be hosted by Dole Fresh Fruit, the City of Latrobe, the Latrobe Art Center, Latrobe Community Revitalization Program and Saint Vincent College. Events will be held in downtown Latrobe and on the campus of Saint Vincent College.
A Pre-Banana Split Party will be held Tuesday, August 20th at 6 p.m. to announce the winner of the Banana Split Theme Song Contest. Root beer floats and banana split smoothies will be made by the Neighborhood Café while Edible Kneads provides a delicious spread of sweet treats!
At 11 a.m. on August 23rd, there will by a dedication of an Historical Marker on the 800 block of Ligonier Street.
A Yellow Tie Gala will be held on August 23rd from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $35 apiece and must be purchased in advance through the Latrobe Community Revitalization Program. Please check the Latrobe Art Center website for additional information. This event is for individuals ages 21 and older. No tickets will be sold at the door.
From 10 a.m. till noon on August 24th, there will be a Dole Family Stroll sponsored by Rotary Club of Latrobe. The Stroll starts at the Spring Street Parking Garage entrance.
Also on Saturday, a Banana Ingredient Baking Contest will be held from 10 a.m. to 11: 30 p.m. Please download entry forms from our website.
At 11 a.m. at the Medicine Shoppe, there will be children's activities until 2 p.m.
A Car Hop will be sponsored by Latrobe Lions Club and Dairy Queen of Latrobe. The event will be held on the 300 block of Depot Street from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Sidewalk Sales will be held from 11 a.m. till 4 p.m. by participating downtown merchants.
An Old Fashioned Family Street Fair, coordinated by The Hope Center, will be held in the Main and Weldon Street parking lots from noon to 4 p.m.
At 6 p.m., a Sock Hop will be held on Ligonier Street which will be blocked off. Food will be available for sale and tables and chairs will be set up throughout the area. Attendees are encouraged to dress in '50's clothing. For tickets, please call Latrobe Art Center.
On Sunday August 25th at 3:45 p.m., a Banana Peeling Flash Mob will be held on Chuck Noll Field at Saint Vincent College, followed by a Banana Split Bar at SVC Gym at 4:30 p.m.
