History Dinner Theater Series - Galileo Galilei - The Starry Mesenger
Organization: Saint Vincent College
Description: he 2019-20 season of History Dinner Theater at Saint Vincent College’s Foster and Muriel McCarl Coverlet Gallery will open at 6 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 14, with “Galileo Galilei – The Starry Messenger” in the Fred M. Rogers Center on the Saint Vincent campus. Reservations are required for the dinner and performance.
“The Starry Messenger” is a dramatic, fun-filled adaptation of Galileo Galilei’s short treatise “Siderius Nuncius.” Widely regarded as the father of modern science, Galileo, dressed in 17th century costume, arrives to present a public lecture on his most recent discoveries made using his newly devised spyglass. As he describes those discoveries, Galileo’s new method of observation and measurement of nature becomes apparent. Throughout the presentation, audience members are actively involved in experiments and demonstrations. After the lecture, Galileo answers questions about his experience, his life and his times.
Mike Francis, a physics and physical science teacher and former lecturer at Boston’s Museum of Science, will portray Galileo, combining the science of astronomy with the dramatic skills of an actor.
Attendees will have a choice of petite filet served with pan-seared chicken breast duet with a burgundy reduction, or ahi tuna steak, pan-seared with teriyaki sauce and topped with wakame. Each entrée will be served with a salad, side dishes, soup and dessert.
Individual tickets for the dinner and performance are $65 per adult, $35 for students with valid ID and $10 for children under 12.
