Hard to Recycle Collection

Description: Westmoreland Cleanways is sponsoring a collection event for HARD-TO-RECYCLE ITEMS (tires, vehicle and household batteries, scrap metal, Freon appliances, and electronics) on Saturday, April 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Westmoreland County Community College, 145 Pavilion Lane, Youngwood. Dan’s Tires, Salandro’s Refuse Inc., The Appliance Warehouse, and JVS Environmental will collect the materials for recycling or proper disposal.
Since Pennsylvania’s Covered Devices Recycling Act went into effect, all computers, monitors, peripheral computer equipment, and televisions collected from consumers and small businesses (less than 50 employees) will be accepted at NO CHARGE. In addition, all other consumer electronics such as stereos, microwaves, VCR/DVD players and Christmas lights, will also be recycled at no charge to the consumer. Other items to be collected:
Household and automotive batteries, clean scrap metal (no plastic, cloth, or rubber attached), and non-freon containing appliances will be accepted at no charge.
Freon-containing appliances such as refrigerators, freezers, and dehumidifiers will be accepted for $20 fee per unit.
Fluorescent bulbs and CFLs: the first four free; all others $1 each.
Tires: $1.75 per tire for passenger and light truck tires off-rim; $2.75 per tire for passenger and light truck tires on-rim.
Heavy truck/ tractor tires: cost determined at the collection.
Westmoreland Cleanways members receive a discount on tire disposal.
