Drug Take Back Collection - 2012
Organization: Westmoreland Cleanways
Description: On Saturday, April 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Drug Enforcement Administration will partner with local law enforcement officials and Westmoreland Cleanways to remove potentially dangerous controlled substances from medicine cabinets across the county. The Westmoreland County collection is part of a national take-back day that will give residents the opportunity to surrender expired, unwanted, or unused pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications to law enforcement officers for destruction.

This one-day effort will bring national focus to the issue of pharmaceutical controlled substance abuse. The program also provides an opportunity for law enforcement, prevention, treatment, and the business community to establish a safe collection site to dispose of the unwanted drugs. Westmoreland Cleanways volunteers will be on hand, along with law enforcement personnel, to answer questions about the collection and proper disposal of medications.

Any controlled, non-controlled and over-the-counter medications will be collected (pills, creams, and liquid).

The collection is anonymous – no identification will be requested.

NO syringes can be accepted.

Participants will retain possession of their own medications and place the substances directly into the collection box.
