"Won't You Be My Neighbor?" Days at Adams Memorial Library Here at Adams Memorial Library, located in Mister Rogers' hometown of Latrobe, PA, we celebrated "Won't You Be My Neighbor?" Days throughout March. During the entire month the library collected donations of food and other household items to benefit the Blackburn Center, a local shelter for women and children. Crafts and other activities at the library focused on Mister Rogers. The crafts included hand puppets and marionettes, and we invited children to help decorate the library by designing paper sneakers, like the ones Mister Rogers wore. Puppets and Mister Rogers' items, such as his books, music CDs, and DVDs, were on display in the library. On March 20th the library celebrated Mister Rogers' 80th birthday with cupcakes for all of the patrons who visited that day. The library staff wore cardigan sweaters and sneakers in honor of Mister Rogers. We listened to Mister Rogers' music in the Children's Room and the storytimes that week will featured stories about friends and neighbors. From the 10th to the 20th, the library offered patrons a chance to have their picture taken wearing a cardigan sweater and posing with puppets from Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. The children's librarians also visited different places in Latrobe to invite other friends in the community to be photographed. The pictures (below) show all of our good neighbors in Latrobe.
