Detailed Info on:
Westmoreland County Food Bank

Our Mission is to stop hunger among the needy in Westmoreland County by acquiring food and distributing it through our network of community agencies and by collaborating with others to establish progams that provide hunger relief and foster nutritional independence of needy people. Westmoreland County Food Bank is a private, non-profit organization. As a certified affiliate member of America's Second Harvest, it is a regional food distribution center providing for our network of 51 volunteer food pantries and 28 on-site programs. Following America's Second Harvest guidelines, the Food Bank inspects, sorts and categorized 2, 615,793 pounds of donated food from area grocery stores each year. Food is donated by farmers, distributors, retailers, bakeries, grocers and manufacturers. With the passing of the Good Samaritan Act of 1996, donors are protected from liability, encouraging them to make greater food contributions. We are commited to responsible stewardship. We can provide almost $15.00 worth of food for every dollar donated to our organization. Of each dollar donated, 92% goes to food and food programs.
