Text-Notifications are being TEMPORARILY suspended

If you use our texting service to get updates about your items, alas, it may be going away TEMPORARILY.

Below is the list of the carriers that have stopped supporting our text message alerts:

AT&T
Boost Mobile
Consumer Cellular
Cricket
Google Fi
MetroPCS
Mint Mobile
Sprint
StraightTalk
T-Mobile
Tracfone
Verizon
Virgin Mobile
Xfinity

(Yeah, it’s basically all the major ones in the area)

Here’s the issue:

Our ILS  uses the Email-to-SMS method to send text notifications, which relies on mobile carriers converting emails into text messages and delivering them to patrons’ phones.

(Email-to-SMS:  It’s a method where a message is sent to a mobile phone via an email address formatted with the recipient’s phone number and carrier domain. The mobile carrier then converts the email into a text message and delivers it to the recipient’s phone.)

Carriers (including the ones above) are discontinuing support for Email-to-SMS services because of infrastructure changes in how mobile phones work, and also the big one: security.  More security means less spam.

But don’t worry–we have a solution!  To make sure you still get important updates, we’re temporarily switching to email or phone notifications.  So no texts, but you can get either an email or a phone call.  If you want to change, please let us know!

Once our new text system is ready, we’ll switch you back to text automatically.

In the meantime, keep calm and read on.

If you have any other questions, please stop by the Upstairs Circulation desk or call us at 724-539-1972.
