The Sensory Corner at AML
We here at Adams Memorial Library and Caldwell Memorial Library understand the importance and the necessity of inclusion. For our friends who need a more sensory-friendly environment to experience the library in, we have a Sensory Corner at each library location!
The Sensory Corner includes a variety of tools and materials that promote self-regulation, focus, and comfort through tactile (touch), visual, auditory, and proprioceptive input.
Located near the Audiobook section on the ground floor, the Sensory Corner provides a calming space for when you’re feeling overstimulated. The space contains soft seating, noise-cancelling headphones, and special sensory objects to help you refocus your attention and quiet your racing thoughts. Nearby, you will now find our books on neurodivergent topics of Autism, ADHD, and other related reading.
More sensory pieces will be installed soon in the corner, as well as in the Children’s room and at our branch, Caldwell Memorial Library.
